#Light It In Red - At The Old Fire Station and The Story Museum

On the 6th of July 2020 we took part in the #LightItInRed campaign showcasing the national emergency situation for the Arts in the UK. We worked with both Arts at the Old Fire Station and The Story Museum to light the front of the buildings in red.

For me, it felt great to be able to spend time doing what I love, which is working in the technical side live and events industry. It was also great to have my work in the Oxford Mail there is still a very long way to go before the arts returns to any sense of normality or regularity.

A huge thank you to Event Production Services for the equipment support they provided to help make this event possible!

Copacabana

I was hired by TASIS England to design, build and install the sign for their Copacabana show in March 2020. To fabricate the letters I decided the easiest course of action was to purchase MDF letters, pre-laser cut to ensure they all matched and were the same size. This was then followed by ordering several sets of festoon lighting and fabricating the holes, test fitting the festoon, painting and then reinstalling and fixing the festoon in place. The letters were then mounted to 2x1 with some structural bracing between the top and bottom. This was then flown in the theatre space and wired in, ready to be programmed into the show.

The Wedding Singer

For this production I designed the lightbox door frames on the side of the stage. They consisted of wooden framing fixed to a scaffold back frame on which LED batterns were mounted. The front of the wooden box had a 3mm sheet of plexiglass fitted, covered in a layer of frost to diffuse the light from the batterns.

Oxford University Salsa Ball

The Oxford University Salsa Society hosted their annual Salsa Ball in the Oxford City Hall. I worked for Sound In Focus to rig, design and operate the light for the evening. This involved setting up a truss and rigging a variety of par cans, LED par cans and moving lights run through an Avolites Titan One USB on a Surface 4 Pro.

This was my first experience with a virtual console and my first experience using tri-beam truss on stands. This was a great leaning experience to work in a professional environment alongside Sound In Focus.

Brookes Got Talent

On the Brookes Union Events Team we organised a Talent Competition with the final between the contestants on the 4th of April 2017.

I auditioned contestants with the events committee and on the day of the show managed the contestants and all of the technical aspects of the show. This included designing the lighting, gathering audio tracks and mixing sound during the show.

It also included managing and setting up the MentiMeter we used to receive votes from the audience.

Alice in Wonderland

For the Alice in Wonderland production at TASIS England  I worked with Jayne McTaggart (Theatre Technician) to assemble the set on the stage as well as rig and install all of the lighting fixtures which had been replaced with LED Par Cans along with the new ETC Lustr 2 Tungstens. Lighting installation took around a day along with set construction, stage painting and clearing also taking a day. I also attended the performance and subsequent set de-construction and de-rigging of the lighting equipment to return to SLX (UK Sound/Light Rental Company.
